Silica is mainly found as natural quartz and then that is ground down to a highly purified fine powder. Crystalline and amorphous are forms of silica rocks. The crystalline silica has been proven to be found in types of soil and rocks. Making the silica powder can be produced through crushing, grinding, and ball milling the silica. The silica powder is used in many different products that people use daily. Some of these products include: soaps, skin care products, pharmaceuticals, glass, tile and many other products. It has been found that the amorphous silica is less toxic than the crystalline silica. The amorphous silica has shown to be more water soluble and the body is able to clear this type of silica at a faster pace. People that have been exposed to the silica flour for a long time could end up with chronic lung injury or even cancerous tumors.
